Gulfport Chamber of Commerce
The Gulfport Chamber of Commerce is an affiliate of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber ofCommerce, a membership organization comprised of businesses in Harrison County and throughout South Mississippi. Through a partnership with the Biloxi, Gulfport, Long Beach and Pass Christian Chambers, the Coast Chamber promotes community and economic development on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
While working to help businesses in the Coastal region grow and prosper, the Gulfport Chamber focuses on the businesses within the Gulfport community. Gulfport Chamber also hosts events and programs that support its Chamber member businesses and Gulfport community in the areas of Community & Economic Development, Small Business Development, Military & Government Affairs and Education & Workforce Development.
Gulfport Chamber of Commerce hosts two major fundraisers. Cocktail Classic is presented and hosted by Island View Casino Resort in the Carter Green Steakhouse. Cocktail Classic is a tasting of those classic drinks everyone loves and don’t forget the delicious hors d’oeuvres. Rockin’ the Dock is hosted at The Dock Bar & Grill each Spring. Enjoy an exciting evening of live music, food, fun and support local businesses. Rockin’ the Dock in 2013 showcased three different genres of bands; Soulshine, SweetRoot, and Starz. Funds raised through Cocktail Classic and Rockin’ the Dock allow the Gulfport Chamber to continue to aid our local businesses, teachers, military, and education community.
Small Business is a major focus of the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce. The Small Business of the Month program has seen great success in nominations to recognize our small businesses in Gulfport who are making a difference in the community. Small Business Grants are awarded each year; usually in December. In 2012, $5,000 was awarded to local businesses with 50 or less employees. Another program initiated to help small businesses is the monthly Gulfport Lunch Break. The lunch break is held at a different Gulfport restaurant each month. The goal of this program is to bring additional patrons to a restaurant and to give the restaurant additional exposure.
Supporting our Education Community is also a focus of the Gulfport Chamber. The Teacher Grant Program helps to fund projects that would normally not be fund because of budget cuts. In 2012, $3,500 was awarded to teachers in Gulfport School District and Harrison County School District. In the spring, Educator Awards are presented to over achieving teachers, administrators, and education supporters. Gulfport Chamber facilitates and awards high school scholarships for students residing within Gulfport city limits. Each year over $7,000 is awarded to graduating high school seniors.
