Gulf Coast Community Foundation awards over $880,000 through
the Mississippi Hurricane Recovery Fund to nineteen coast entities and non-profit agencies
GULFPORT, MS – Gulf Coast Community Foundation awarded $880,992 in Grants to nineteen coast entity and non-profit agencies. A check presentation ceremony will be held January 11, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Knight Non-profit Center in Gulfport.
Grant Recipients included:
• City of Pascagoula: $222,059
• MS Gulf Coast Children’s Health Project: $25,000
• MS Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce Foundation: $25,000
• Home of Grace Corporation: $25,000
• MS Center for Justice: $50,000
• Hancock Housing Resource Center: $49,319
• Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County: $44,850
• Hope Community Development Agency: $50,000
• Lynn Meadows Discovery Center: $24,764
• Habitat for Humanity Bay-Waveland, Inc.: $50,000
• Hancock County Food Pantry: $30,000
• Junior Auxiliary of Gulfport: $30,000
• St. Alphonsus Catholic School: $25,000
• Greater Picayune Arts Council: $50,000
• Memorial Hospital at Gulfport Foundation, Inc.: $50,000
• Society of St. Vincent de Paul: $40,000
• Nativity BVM: $25,000
• Boys and Girls Club of the Gulf Coast: $50,000
• Gulf Coast Womens Center for Nonviolence, Inc.: $15,000
“Our Board of Directors worked tirelessly to evaluate the proposals submitted by area agencies. We believe the work accomplished by these organizations will make a significant impact in the Gulf Coast’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina,” said Rich Westfall, GCCF President.
Gulf Coast Community Foundation is proud to have been selected by the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Hurricane Recovery Fund to administer the money for the projects of the Fund; The Foundation has developed relationships with many faith-based organizations, long term recovery and other recovery volunteer groups the Fund supports.
“Gulf Coast Community Foundation received 145 proposals totaling almost $22 million,” said Jay Huffstatler, GCCF Director of Programs. “This shows there is a still a large remaining need on the Mississippi Gulf Coast caused by Hurricane Katrina,” Huffstatler added.
“Gulf Coast Community Foundation has been one of the leaders in funding hurricane recovery through the efforts of the Mississippi Hurricane Recovery Fund over the past 3 years,” stated Greg Cronin, Chairman of the GCCF Board of Directors. “We are pleased to continue our recovery efforts by making these Grants to these agencies dedicated to the coast’s recovery,” Cronin added.
