Senate Tables Motion to Reconsider Tourism Incentive Amendments

March 9th, 2009

These amendments to current legislation will allow Mississippi gaming companies to participate in the state tourism incentive program to create qualifying non-gaming attractions as defined in the legislation. This legislation is important to our regional vision of becoming a Tier One tourism destination and building more non-gaming attractions such amusement parks, sports facilities, museums, golf courses, up-scale retail, and convention capacity.

· HB 1467 puts in a place an important tool which will help drive our tourism base when the national economy begins to recover.

· HB 1467 will incentivize higher quality, family-oriented attractions to locate in Mississippi (projects must meet a minimum capital investment of $10 million).

· HB 1467 will bring more tourists and more tax revenues for our roads, schools, and other public services.

· HB 1467 will create a better quality of life and more jobs for our region.
