Ever wanted to start formulating new glazes, or changing the texture or color of glazes you already use? Now you can, with the help of Expert Potter and Seasoned Glaze Wizard Christian Bailey. Christian will guide students through the process of mixing glazes and then manipulating them. Students will each pick a base glaze formula, mix and then test them adding varying amounts of colorants, opacifiers, fluxs, etc to change the color, quality, and behavior of the glaze. All materials and tools will be provided, but feel free to bring and immersion blender or scale if you have them. Bring a bag lunch for March 24. Students will reconvene for a potluck lunch on March 31 from 12pm-1pm to look at fired tiles and discuss results. Workshop: Saturday, March 24, 2018, 10am-5pm Glaze Review: Saturday, March 31, 2018, 12pm-1pm Cost: $80 per student until March 17, $95 per student after March 17 Christian Bailey is a ceramic sculptor, potter, and teacher, living in Saucier, Mississippi. He has a BFA sculpture from the University of Southern Mississippi, and is the current department chair of Fine arts at Harrison Central High School. He has been teaching and working in clay for the past decade. His work currently tries to cross the boundary of the functional with sculptural while exploring the wide capabilities of fire.
