The mission of Specialized Treatment Facility is to promote and strengthen the mental health and the education of males and females who are experiencing behavioral difficulties in their homes, schools, and communities. Specialized Treatment Facility will enhance the Department of Mental Health mission to a better tomorrow by making a difference in the lives of Mississippi adolescents with mental illness and substance abuse one person at a time.
STF is looking for a fun, energetic individual looking to enrich the lives of the residents at STF with creative and recreational activities. This is paraprofessional work to provide care and support for adolescents receiving mental health treatment in a residential setting. Staff will provide supervision and assist residents with performance of daily activities including but not limited to hygiene, physical care, laundry, housekeeping, education, and development of social skills; document resident behavior and progress towards goals; direct and participate in recreational and social activities for residents; accompany residents to activities and programs on and off campus; and model appropriate behavior and communication at all times. This position is responsible for assisting with the planning of recreational activities, following the supervision of a recreational manager. Recreation aides prepare all the resources, guide the participants, maintain the activity equipment, facilitate the program, and reiterate the guidelines for the safe execution of the activity. The applicant should possess the ability to develop, direct, and participate in therapeutic recreational activities to include recreation, physical fitness, and creative arts. This position in the Residential Living department and is primarily assigned to Recreation department. The applicant must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Preference to applicants with a college degree career path in recreation. Minimum requirement is a High School Diploma or high school equivalency, and recreation experience.
