36 Annual Biloxi Seafood Festival Winning Artist
Gulfport Native, Benjamin Rusher has been named the winner of the 36th Annual Biloxi Seafood Festival Poster Contest. Rusher currently owns and operates Integrity Tattoo Company, which he has opened in the past year. His artist mentors include Blaire Hoffman, Greg Irons, John Audubon, and his sister, Erica Johnson, who has encouraged him since he was a child. Rusher began a career as an artist in 2008 and loves to work in watercolors.
When asked what his inspiration was he said, “I was inspired by the Gulf Coast and by the Seafood Festival posters of yesteryear. The old ones are my favorites and I hope I did them justice.” Rusher’s technique was to the detail and illustration of the piece yet still keep the concept loose and fun. “I strive for attention to detail, while also keeping it loose and fun. I am honored to even be associated with them past year’s winners,” said Rusher.
Posters can be purchased at the Biloxi Visitors Center, Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce, Inc. and Negrotto’s Gallery. The posters are $50 for signed and numbered prints and $25 for unsigned prints.
