    About Us

The Mississippi State University Extension Service Early Childhood Programs provide comprehensive, community-driven services that support young children and their families across Mississippi. Grounded in the land-grant mission of education, outreach, and service, these programs are designed to ensure that children from birth to age five have access to high-quality early learning experiences while families receive the resources and support needed to thrive.

Through core initiatives such as Head Start and Early Head Start, MSU Extension delivers research-based education that promotes school readiness and healthy development. Children benefit from nurturing learning environments that foster growth in language, literacy, social-emotional development, and problem-solving skills. At the same time, programs prioritize health and wellness by connecting families to medical, dental, nutritional, and mental health services.

Beyond the classroom, MSU Extension Early Childhood Programs emphasize strong family engagement and community partnerships. Families are supported in setting and achieving personal goals related to education, employment, and overall well-being, creating a foundation for long-term success. Additional efforts, such as Resource and Referral services and initiatives like the Nurturing Homes Initiative, extend the reach of these programs by strengthening early care systems and increasing access to quality child care across the state.

With a commitment to excellence, inclusion, and innovation, MSU Extension Early Childhood Programs play a vital role in building strong
