    Position Description:  This position is with the Specialized Treatment Facility, a Mississippi Department of Mental Health Program, which is located in Gulfport MS. Specialized Treatment Facility, a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility, provides mental health treatment, substance use/abuse treatment, as well as education to adolescents ages 12-18.  Teachers in this classification are responsible for instructing students in one or more subjects, such as English, Social Studies, Math, Science, or other academic courses depending on subject area certification and assignment. The teacher in this position will provide Science instruction for adolescents residing at STF and attending its MDE accredited non-public school. The work involves preparing teaching outlines for course or courses of study, assigning lessons, administering tests, and evaluating reports. Teachers work under the supervision of an administrative superior, and supervision is frequently exercised over support care professionals helping in the classrooms. Employees may be accountable for accommodating IEPs for individuals with special needs. Employees are also accountable for preparing reports based on resident attendance, performance, progress, and skills assimilation.
    EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Requires a relevant Bachelor’s Degree and a valid Mississippi Class A teaching certification with endorsements in MILD/MOD DISABILITIES (K-12) and/or SCIENCE (7-12) and/or MATH (7-12) as required by the State Department of Education. Applicants must agree upon attaining said endorsements if hired if they do not already have one or more of said endorsements. A signed agreement will be made if offered a position with the stipulation that the applicant will attain endorsements within six months of employment.

    Position Description: The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is accountable for assessment, diagnosis, evaluation and determination of resident treatment planning and processes. Employees at this level perform more complex medical procedures and oversee the delivery of specialized resident care that is allowed within the governance that manages the work of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. Facilitates discharge planning, taking into consideration STF environment and skills. Accountable for all required documentation in accordance with medical policies, practices and protocols. Typically reports to the Program Director and Medical Director.  The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner’s duties include, but are not limited to: Psychiatric Care - Primary psychiatric care for all residents in collaboration with child/adolescent psychiatrist(s). Provide medical management in collaboration with physician(s) in accordance with approved protocol. Liaison to the psychiatrist(s). Quality Improvement Program (Collaboration with Physician) – Maintain log of physician’s monthly reviews of 10% or 20 charts, whichever is less. Review will include the identifier, reviewer’s name, and date of review. Maintain log of quarterly face-to-face consults with physician. Treatment Team – Attend all treatment team committee meetings. If the psychiatrist is unable to chair the treatment team, then the nurse practitioner will co-chair with a licensed physician. Admissions Exam - Conduct a direct examination for admission and document why lower level of care is not medically appropriate. The admission will be pre-approved by the child/adolescent psychiatrist. The NP direct examination will be approved by the child/adolescent psychiatrist. Complete histories and physicals on new admissions, discharges and residents on therapeutic leave as needed. The health assessment shall include a medical history, a physical examination, neurological examination when indicated, and a laboratory workup. The physical examination shall be completed within 24 hours after admission. Psychiatric Evaluation - Conduct a psychiatric evaluation on each resident. The child/adolescent psychiatrist will also directly evaluate the resident within 7 days of admission. The evaluation shall include, but not be limited to, the following items: 1) A history of previous emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric problems and treatment; and 2) The resident’s current emotional and behavioral functioning. Therapy – May conduct individual and/or group therapy. Therapeutic Leave - The attending physician or PMHNP must approve all therapeutic leave days. Consultations - Direct consultation at least once per week with each resident and timely documentation in each medical chart. Discharge Plans – Approve discharge/aftercare plans. Charting - Progress notes shall be recorded. The frequency of the progress note is determined by the condition of the resident but shall be recorded at least monthly. Orders – Provide orders for medications, laboratory and x-ray services, and other related services. Special Procedures – While on site, provide orders for the use of all special procedures (i.e., seclusion, personal restraint/holds, mechanical restraint, and pharmacological restraint). Participate in at least a monthly review of special procedures. Continuous Learning – Attend required trainings. Maintain Mandt, CPR and first aid certifications. May provide training to other staff. Clinical Supervision – Provide clinical supervision to RN’s and RL Support Care staff. Committees – Participate in monthly Management, Performance Improvement, AMC and Environment of Care committee meetings. Licensure - Maintain license in the State of Mississippi. Is an active member of the Licensed Professional Staff and maintains credentials required to be an active member. All STF employees are responsible for reading, understanding, and adhering to all policies, protocols, and memorandums. Universal Precautions and Infection Control policies must be adhered by all STF employees.
    EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    Requires a Nurse Practitioner Degree in Family Psychiatric Mental Health or Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Mental Health, licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, 0-3 years of experience, and nationally board certified.  Maintains DEA licensure.
